Scissor Help!!!!!!!

Kathat needs your help!!!!! Who do we ask for help when we don't know the way? The map....or my blogging buddies (yes, I watch way too much Dora).

I somewhat recently--in the last 12 months--bought a pair of Cutter Bee scissors that I've only been using for ribbon. Well, my parents are visiting from Thailand which means my stamping room is in disarray and out of commission since the TV is in there and some people don't like to watch sports 24/7 :-) I've been on somewhat of a stamping hiatus but the tiny bit I've done has been on the island between the kitchen and family room. . .Welllllllllllllll, I'm not the best about putting my things away immediately and the island is a mess and I left my Cutter Bees on the counter when dh and I went away. I found them near the couch. . .which is not where I left them...and I knew that they'd been used. . .I did stamp tonight (pic forthcoming when I have better lighting or access to my Ott-Lite) and when I went to cut some ribbon I discovered that someone had used my beloved ribbon scissors on something other than ribbon which means that they don't cut smoothly any longer. I'm really bummed right now and definitely need to get some ribbon scissors.

This is where I need your help. I'd love to know what you use to cut ribbon. I could go to my LSS and buy another pair of Cutter Bee scissors but they also have some that seem better (or maybe they're the same but have different color handles). I've also been looking at the Tonic Scissors that my LSS also carries. I could get the SU Craft and Paper Scissors but do I want to spend that much, even with my demo discount? What do you use for ribbon? What do you recommend? Give me your suggestion and if I end up buying what you suggest, I'll send you a little something :-)

Thanks in advance!

  1. SU's Craft & Rubber scissors all the way! Before that I used SU's papersnips, I have 1 pair of Craft & Rubber Scissors for ribbon & than another pair for paper. I tied a piece of ribbon to the ones for ribbon...no one touches mine & my hubby knows which is which...I'm sooo lucky!

  2. I'm sorry to hear about your scissor incident Kathy. I think that you are probably going to have to invest in another pair. It really is difficult to keep the kids and hubby away from our tools:) To them scissors are scissors but we know this isn't true.
Either way, let us know what you decide to do.
    Have a beautiful day!

  3. sorry to hear about the scissor mishap - so disappointing. you really can use any pair of scissors for ribbon as long as they are dedicated ONLY to the ribbon like you had prior to this. I would suggest tying a big ribbon around the finger holes & a tag that says FOR RIBBON only or something. get a cheap pair at Wal-Mart. The only reason I got the Craft & Rubber scissors from SU! is because I won $30 free merchandise otherwise I would never pay that much (but they are great!) Melanie got a pair at our local craft store for less than $10and they work wonderfully because she dedicated them for ribbon only.

  4. By far, the SU Craft scissors surpass all others. I was completely against buying them because I thought, "how great can scissors be when cutting ribbon?" Plus, the cost is prohibitive. Well, I was wrong. These give a clean, neat slice without any tugging at the ribbon (as with the SU snips or Cutter Bee brand)and are fabulous! However, dedicate them only to ribbon (or paper, whatever you decide to cut with them FOREVER). You won't go wrong!

  5. Bummer! I just ruined a good pair of Fiskars scissors. BUT - the scissor sharpening guy will be back at Joann's in May so I'm going to see if he can save them. Crossing my finger!

I have the Tim Holtz scissors and they are wonderful!
I don't know that it matters what scissors you get for ribbon - as long as you only reserve them for ribbon/fabric - KWIM? But I'm not an expert - just a gal on a budget!

  6. I'm so glad you asked this question. I am in the same situation....none of my scissors cut ribbon anymore. So I'm looking for something new too. Let me know what you decide on and how you like it. :)

  7. I actually purchase sewing scissors from my local Joanne's (might have been Michael's) and they were only $1.99! They are the best for my ribbon. The only pair I use! Vicki
